Who we are

Windpack is NC State's student team in the Collegiate Wind Competition.

Each year the competition asks college teams to build a working wind turbine from scratch and make the business case for where a real one should go. We compete in both halves: our engineers design and build the turbine, and our Project Development team studies real sites, analyzes wind data, and presents a full project plan.

Our teams

  1. Mechanical

Blade aerodynamics, 3D-printed hubs, the drivetrain, and the yaw and pitch systems. This is where CAD becomes a machine that has to survive a wind tunnel.

  2. Electrical

Power electronics, generator integration, and safety load circuits, plus the control system that keeps the turbine producing cleanly as the wind changes underneath it.

  3. Project Development

Wind resource assessment, site selection, environmental review, financial modelling, and community outreach: the full case for building a wind farm, not just a turbine.

    • Environmental & Permitting
    • Grid Interconnection
    • Supply Chain
